Blog debut

I decided that it would be fun to start a blog to allow us to share funny stories and photos with our family and friends, as well as, to help us remember this time in our life.

The joys of parenthood...

Miles turned two and a half yesterday and he seems to be in the peak of his terrible two's this week. His favorite word is "Noooooo" said with a fabulous whine and if we are lucky, an immediate drop to the floor. It's hard not to laugh at him, but it's so ridiculous and we just have to remind ourselves that he's two. On a daily basis, we fight him to get dressed every morning and he also loves to fight bath time every night as he knows it means bed time is coming. And, he loves to change his mind about everything. However, on a positive note, he constantly amazes us with new words, songs, etc and that is what makes being a parent so worth it. This morning, Derek was looking at the weather on his computer and Miles noticed a map and said "continent" and then said "South America." Even though the map wasn't of either of those things, we were impressed that he knew those words and made the association. We credit Miles' amazing teacher, Layla, for all the the new things he learns every day.

Lil Oliver, who will be 3 months next Friday, slept through the night last night for the first time!!! It was pretty ironic, considering that right before Derek and I went to bed last night, we agreed not to talk about how all of our other friends babies (close in age to Oliver) are sleeping through the night and Oliver isn't. HA! Granted, it could have been a one-time fluke, but we will take it. Of course, I didn't sleep through the night... I woke up numerous times wondering what was going on, waiting to go feed him. Sigh.

We took Oliver to his pediatrician this morning to follow-up on his acid reflux and see how it's improving (or not). The good news is that he gained a little bit of weight since his last appointment, although it was on the lower range of normal. But, since we and the pediatrician think that the reflux is not an extreme case, we are going to keep an eye on things and we will go back in 3 weeks and re-assess. We recently upped his dose of anti-acid medication, but it can sometimes take 2+ weeks to see full results. Keep your fingers crossed!
